The Last Rebirth

“The night is darkest just before the dawn”

I've been here before, or at least I thought I had... but something is different.

My eyes flicker to offset a blinding light, a familiar feeling. My muscles ache as if unused, I remember this too. My movement is notably cautious, I extend slowly, I retract a little faster, I test my limbs with unprecedented fascination. I move my hands level to my eyes and then watch as I stretch each finger simultaneously. My curiosity is now greater than my fear, and so I step towards the exit of a man-made womb, shedding dead skin like unwanted clothes, I approach the light, peering at it from the protection of my black cocoon, I get closer, the light gains in clarity before swallowing me whole.

"Welcome back," an omnipresent voice breathes.

But something is different.

The feeling.

The freedom.

The connection.

The balance.

Wait... balance?

My bones screech as the earth shakes beneath me.

The volcanic ash disintegrates as it touches my skin.

My eyes are closed, a faint smile, I feel the winter sun surround me. This is definitely different.

A certainty.

Familia ante Omnia
