There are three or four pieces of work that have provided most of the inspiration for the story. the Lord of the Rings, x-men, the matrix and game of thrones can all be felt in my writing.
the themes of the book are definitely more matrix/x-men -esque.
but the setting and surroundings undoubtedly have a lord of the rings/Game of thrones-y vibe.
Lets start with the matrix and the similarities involved.
THe journey of 'the one' is the journey every man aspiring for god-like status must make with no one way to reach 'enlightenment'.
for Neo, he had to die, and only through the love of a woman who finally professed her love for him, was he able to be revived. Subsequently he finally crossed over.
For Lagos, well I don't want to spoil the end of chapter 2, but it's just as heavy, if not more so. (Subscribe to read it!) But that is where the similarity lies, except in my story, my concept is based on the fact that anyone can be 'the one', but its the choices we make as men that lead us closer or further away from greatness.
X-Men, well, the similarities lie in the supernatural abilities of the characters in the book. The biggest difference however is the origin of these abilities. In X-Men these abilities are passed on via the 'mutant gene' and if we were going to stick with this metaphor, in my book the 'mutant gene' is in everyone, accessing it is the challenge, with suffering, the path.
Game of thrones comparisons come in the form of the political workings to an imaginary summit. The 'king of kings' so to speak.
There is not much of a comparison to lord of the rings except for the type of world KNosos is. If I wanted to, who knows maybe I still will... it would be easy to draw a map with many comparisons to the one Tolkien created in his epic.
